In Loving Memory Doris Viola Greene Smith 8/29/1918 - 2/20/2010 Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Doris Viola Greene Smith, age 91, of Lenoir, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 in the Wilkes Senior Village in North Wilkesboro.  Born August 29, 1918 in Watauga County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Copna and Fannie Norris Greene and the wife of the late Charlie Smith. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Spirit & Life Assembly Church. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 6 sisters. She is survived by four daughters; Juanita Greene and husband Johnny, Geneva Johnson and husband Doug, Lois Triplett and husband George, Louise Keller and husband Sam; one son, James Smith and wife Janell; 2 sisters; 13 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Smith’s life will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Spirit & Life Assembly with Pastor Bob Roark officiating.  Burial will take place at 3:30 PM on Tuesday at the Mt. Paron Baptist Church Cemetery in Deep Gap. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at Evans Funeral Service and Crematory of Lenoir. Pallbearers will be Grandsons. The family respectfully request memorials be made to Spirit & Life Assembly Church, 1421 Cajah’s Mt. Road, Hudson, NC 28638. She was always very kind to me and my family. She was especially kind to my Dad (Dick), calling almost on a daily bases to check on him, after my Mother (Dollie) went to the nursing home. I will always remember her as having God's sweet spirit and being a true Southern Lady.... How much better could it be. I have fond memories of uncle Charlie and aunt Doris letting me spend the night and they had to take me home in the middle of the night because I cryed. That will always be special to me. I could go on and on, but she knew that I loved her. Now she at home with uncle Charlie, grandpa and granny, and her brothers and sisters. My Darling Cousins, Let me start by saying how much I have always loved you. It seemed only yesterday when Cousin Dorice came to me at the old Mount View Baptist Church and invited me to except Her Savior. I put it off. How I wish I hadn't. However, I excepted Jesus as my Savior many years ago. Dorice I love you. Children I love you. I rejoiced that she got HOME to be with the ONE she had served since a child. And with many others who received her and rejoiced. I am blessed by the example she sat for me to follow.
