Hudson, NC- Mr. Melvin John Childers, age 77, of Hudson, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at his home. Born June 2, 1932 in Caldwell County, Mr. Childers was a son of the late Frank and Effie Presnell Childers and the husband of Margaret Hamm Childers of the home.
Mr. Childers was a member of Temple Hill Baptist Church and had worked in the furniture industry.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice Whisnant and Louise Baker and one brother, F.C. Childers.
Surviving other than his wife are two children, Charles Wayne Childers and Danny Ray Childers, both of Hickory; his step-daughter, Penny Diane Enscoe of Charlotte; his brother, Sherman Shinn of Granite Falls; two sisters, Mary Yount and Shirley Laxton, both of Granite Falls and his step-sister, Lela Watkins of Kannapolis.
A celebration of Mr. Childers’ life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 27, 2010 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Clyde Bumgarner officiating. Burial will follow in the Dudley Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at Evans Funeral Service & Crematory.
Pallbearers will be: Floyd Beaver, Garland Beaver, Kenny Shinn, James Adkins, Tommy Kirby, Josh Shinn and Junior Leonard.
