In Loving Memory
Bill Frye Laney
1/20/1929 - 7/1/2010



Lenoir, NC- Mr. Bill Frye Laney, age 81, of Lenoir, died Thursday, July 1, 2010.  Born January 20, 1929 in Catawba County, Mr. Laney was a son of the late Bryant Fillmore and Edna Gay Beach Laney and the husband of Jane Teague Laney of the home, to whom he was married 20 years.


Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Clive Wayne Laney, Ralph Beach Laney, Ben Martin Laney and Nick Edward Laney; 3 sisters, Mabel Laney Taylor, Georgia Laney Benfield and Betty Jean Laney.


Mr. Laney was vice-president of Taylor Brothers Construction, and a U.S. Army veteran.  He was a member of the UNC-Chapel Hill Alumni Association and Lower Creek Baptist Church.  He was an avid reader and loved fishing.


Surviving other than his wife is his daughter, Cheryl M. Dockery and  husband Richard of Hickory; one sister, Margaret Laney Smith of Lenoir; 2 sisters-in-law,  Mrs. Polly Laney of Lenoir and Mrs. Celia Laney of Charlotte and one grandson, his pride and joy, Hampton T. Dockery of Hickory; two step-sons and a number of nieces and nephews.


A gathering of friends will be held Sunday, July 4, 2010 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service from 2 until 4 PM.


Memorials may be made to the UNC-Chapel Hill Alumni Association.

I was so sorry to hear of Bill's death. He was a wonderful father figure to Wayne McNeely, my brother-in-law, and to Wayne's brother, Allen. His delight and joy were his two granddaughters Rebecca and Elizabeth from his first wife, the late Celia Laney, They will miss him greatly.
