Willie Jay Haynes
11/10/1917 - 7/29/2010



Lenoir, NC –  Willie Jay Haynes, 92, of Whitnel, went home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2010 after an extended illness. He was a loving husband and caring father who will be missed greatly by his family and friends.


He was born November 10, 1917 in McDowell County to the late Benjamin Franklin and Oralee Marlowe Haynes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ruth Nelson Haynes; brothers, Alvin Haynes, Boyd Haynes, and Guy Haynes; sisters, Pearl Killian, Bethany Anderson, and Helen Holland; granddaughter, Dana Haynes; grandson, Trey Smith; and sons-in-law, Larry Ollis and Billy Parson.


He was retired from Hammary Furniture and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Lenoir.


Willie liked homecooked meals and working in the garden. He had a passion for wood working and could often be found in his workshop making knives.


He is survived by his sisters, Kathleen Gay and Nanalee Parker; daughters, Loretta Ollis of Hudson, Margaret Parson of Morganton, Willamena Summerow and husband, Larry of Lenoir, Sherry Smith and husband, Bill of Lenoir; sons, Howard Haynes and wife, Dianne of Lenoir and Cecil Haynes and wife, Olivia of Lenoir; and special niece, Louise Taylor; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.


Willie’s family will be receiving friends and family at Evans Funeral Service on Friday, July 30, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00.


The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010, 2:00 PM, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with the Reverend Buddy Smith and Pastor Steve Walsh officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be: Greg Bean, Mason Bean, Justin Keever, Jake Smith, Todd Parson, and Landon Annas. Honorary Pallbearer will be Josh Haynes.
