Chris D. Evans
Born in Edenton, North Carolina in 1964, I experienced the death of my
mother at the early age of 7, my mother was only 35. During high school,
I began working part-time in the local funeral home. After graduating, I
began college with the goal of becoming a youth minister. Later I found
my calling was in funeral service. I earned my degree in funeral service
and became licensed by the North Carolina Board of Funeral Service. At
the age of 25, I became a partner in a large funeral home. I later moved
to Lenoir for a short time when we joined with a partner and bought the funeral
home in Edenton, my home town. After selling it in 1996, we began our
journey back to Lenoir to raise our children and be with family. Our
plans are to stay here in Lenoir, my wife’s home town, and make it our home and
our place of retirement. I am an ordained deacon and a proud member of
Lower Creek Baptist Church.
Lisa Saunders-Evans
Born in Lenoir, I am the daughter of Becky Saunders and the late Bob Saunders
from the Lower Creek community. I was raised in Lenoir and graduated from
Hibriten High School. After high school, I worked for the Lenoir Police
Department and Southern Bell as a dispatcher. I also worked with a local
florist as a designer. As I moved, I found myself working in the floral
business. After we bought our funeral home in Edenton, we decided to open a
florist in the funeral home. During this time, I also went to school and
obtained my North Carolina Insurance License. I used this to assist families in
funding their prearranged funerals that they had made with one of our funeral
directors. After moving back to Lenoir, my focus has been on our children.
After working with Bank of America for a short period of time, we found it
necessary for me to come home to our family business. Lower Creek Baptist
Church is the place where I was raised and now a place I have come home to.
Our Children
Together we have two wonderful children, Jonathan “Jon” and Elizabeth “Liz”.
They are the very reason we strive to help people. We want to continue
encouraging them to serve people. Jon attends college in High Point, NC where
he is studying recording arts engineering and live stage performance and enjoys
playing music. Liz is a sophomore at Hibriten High School and she is active in
drama at Hibriten High School and her youth group at Lower Creek Baptist
Church. Together we are committed to the people in the Lenoir area. We will be
involved in our community, giving back as much as we can to be good citizens.
