Lenoir- Dr. Allen R. Hefner, age 85, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Shaire Center. Dr. Hefner was born in Iredell County on January 8, 1931 to Minor Hefner and Claudia Reitzel Hefner. He was married for more than 60 years to Martha Yount Hefner. A memorial service for Dr. Hefner will be held at Hudson United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Holly Cobb Adams officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Dr. Hefner served Caldwell County in many different capacities since 1961 when he became Hudson’s first dentist. He retired from his private practice in December 2012 after faithfully serving his patients for 51 years. Long before he became a dentist he started serving his country with the United States Army. Years later he began serving Caldwell County on several boards including, County Commission, Board of Education, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, and the former Bank of Granite. In addition to these responsibilities he still found time to be a part of the Lion’s Club, Masons, Shriner’s and his beloved Hudson United Methodist Church, where he joined in April of !961. Dr. Hefner will be remembered by his family, friends, former patients and community as a loving, respectable man with a humble spirit. In addition to his wife, Dr. Hefner is survived by his sons, Mark Hefner of Mooresville and Phillip Hefner of San Antonio, TX; granddaughter, Victoria Hefner of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Martha Arthur, Peggy Hefner, and Betty Newell.
