Almonta Jane Koontz Beane, 81, born October 7, 1934 to Carl and Eustace Koontz. Clubs and volunteer work were an important part of Nana’s life. She was a member of Baton Ruritan Club, Baton Ruritanettes, and Mountain Grove Quilting Club. She had perfect attendance with the Ruritan Club and was Baton Ruritan Citizen of the year in 2011. Nana met the love of her life at Roses 5 and Dime in 1952. They married in June of 1954. She also worked at Blue Bell, drove a school bus for Baton Elementary, sewed for various people, worked at Broyhill Pacemaker, and at Harper Furniture. She retired in 1998. Nana loved life. Her grandchildren and her great grandchildren were her greatest treasures. She adored working in her greenhouse and her flower beds. Sharing flower seeds was a favorite. Sewing, crafting, quilting, and cooking for her family also brought joy to Nana. Traveling, camping and beach trips in the fall were some of her favorites; walking on the beach looking for shells, crabbing, and meeting new friends were cherished memories. Holidays were always filled with chicken and dumplings, apple pies, coconut cakes, family, and lots of hugs and smiles. Unconditional love was something Nana taught us all! She was proceeded in death by her parents Carl Koontz Sr. and Eustace Koontz, and brother Jack Douglas. Survivors include her husband Fredric of the home, a daughter, Helen Saunders and husband, Junior of Lenoir, two sons, Lynn Beane and wife Andrea, Bobby Beane and wife Pam of Granite Falls; Five grandchildren, Brooke Goss and husband Rick of Mint Hill, Jeremy Saunders and wife Courtney of Lenoir, Brandon Beane and wife April of Hudson, Justin Hass and fiancé Kira Kestner of Hudson, and Thomas Beane and Rebecca Mise of Granite Falls; Great Grandchildren, Nicholas Goss, Reagan Goss, Devin Goss, Greyson Beane and Baby Judson Haas to be; Almonta had two brothers Carl Koontz Jr. of Greensboro, and Euel Koontz of Hudson. 3 sisters Virginia Miller and Ronnie McDougle of Hudson and Dorcas Drum of Eutaville, SC; She also had a multitude of nieces and nephews that she loved very much and was called “NANA” by everyone who met her. Happy Heart Kids held a special place in Nana’s heart. The families and their children became her extended family as well. She loved making them homemade biscuits, and apple butter and taking them for wagon rides to the pond and dressing up in her infamous Halloween costumes during their festivals.The family will receive friends at Mountain Grove Church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. A memorial service celebrating Almonta’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Mountain Grove Church at 2:00 PM with Jeff Birkhimer and Ron Beane officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Baton Ruritan Club Building Fund - In care of Sam Yearick, Treasurer, 4100 Monte Vista, Hudson, NC 28638.
