It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Betty Jo Schenck, 78, of Taylors-ville, North Carolina. With Betty’s departure, we remember a life lived with immense love and a constant sense of caring.
Betty was born March 25, 1947, to William (Buddy) and Lillian Fricker in Miami, Florida. She attended Hialeah High School where she met her husband, Russell. They built a home in Miami, Florida and later moved to Ocala, Florida in 1982 where they lived for 43 years before moving to North Carolina. Betty and Russell were married for 62 years and raised three beautiful children.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Russell Schenck, Sr, son, Russell Schenck Jr., daughter, Tammy Wolfe (Charles), son, Robert Schenck, Sr. (Laura), six grandchildren, Ashley (Frank), Kevin (Zelina), Alisha (Raul), Robert Schenck, Jr. (Shelly), Briana (Cay-don) and Joseph (Brittany), fifteen great-grandchildren, Savannah, Sophia, Stella, Kali, Mila, Layla, Angel, Aleeah, Nevaeh, Amyah, Alaina, Wyatt, Whitney, Everleigh and Jack-son, as well as her only sibling, Hila Westpy (Eddie), sisters in-law, Judy and Jolen, brother in-law, John and several cherished extended family and nieces and nephews.
Betty spent twenty-one dedicated years working for the Clerk of Court in Ocala, Florida, as a Passport and Marriage Clerk. She was known for her work ethic, kindness and beau-tiful smile. However, the roles she cherished most were those of a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her warmth, generosity and genuine love for others will be forever remembered by all who knew her.
As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the love, joy and kindness that were the essence of Betty’s being. She never met a stranger. She held a deep affection for spending time with her loved ones. She was a beautiful soul who cared deeply for her family. She will forever be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the light she brought to the lives around her.
The greatest lesson she shared with us is the importance of kindness and the act of showing love to one another. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Betty Jo Schenck will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Evans Funeral Service located at 1070 Taylorsville Rd SE, Lenoir, NC. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
