Bobby Ray Cornett

April 4, 1941 — May 22, 2025

Bobby Ray Cornett passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in his home. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love touched all who knew him.

A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Bobby lived his life guided by faith, love, and compassion. He was a dedicated member of South Lenoir Church of God, where he found strength and fellowship within his church community. His steadfast belief was evident in the way he treated others—with generosity, humility, and an open heart. His love for the Lord was at the core of who he was, shaping his character and inspiring those around him.

For 66 wonderful years, Bobby shared life’s journeys with his beloved wife, Georgia Cornett. Together, they traveled across the country from North Carolina to Wyoming, experiencing the excitement of Cheyenne Frontier Days, attending rodeos and concerts along the way. In their younger years, they embraced adventure at every turn—even taking a thrilling motorcycle ride through Death Valley. Bobby had a passion for the open road, and one of his most memorable trips was riding his Harley across the country on a remarkable 7,000-mile round trip.

Bobby was a gifted craftsman, working as a carver at Hibriten Chair from 1963 to 1978. He then worked at Eaton (NACCO) from 1978 to 2002 as a machinist. His love for woodworking extended far beyond his career—throughout his life, he crafted beautiful pieces, including clocks and jewelry boxes. He even built the cabinets in his own kitchen, fulfilling his wife’s wish for new ones with his own two hands. Bobby also had a deep appreciation for timepieces, collecting clocks that filled his home with history and character.

Beyond his work, he had a steadfast commitment to his family farm in Ashe County, tending to the land each year with great care. He also found joy in staying active, walking six miles every morning with his wife and friends at Broyhill Walking Park, a routine that brought him both health and cherished companionship.

Born with a generous heart and a steadfast spirit, Bobby lived a life full of love and dedication. His legacy is woven into the lives of those he nurtured, guided, and inspired. His laughter, resilience, and stories will forever echo in the hearts of his family and friends.

Bobby leaves behind a family who will continue to honor his memory and carry forward his lessons of strength, compassion, and unwavering faith. He is survived by his loving wife, Georgia Cornett; his son, Douglas Cornett (Susan); his daughter, Tana Tucker (Melvin Wilson Jr.); his grandchildren Jordan Cornett Tucker (Kamron), Madison Cornett, and Terrence Tucker (Valerie Gragg); and his great-grandchildren Raegan Tucker, Memphis Gragg and Jameson Tucker. As well as his brother Bradley Cornett (Marlene); and his sister Della Jones (Thomas).

He is preceded in death by his mother, Estella Jones Cornett, and father, Scott Tway Cornett, as well as his sisters, Gladys Church (Blaine), Pearl Price (Burl), and Laura Adams (Everett).

A service celebrating his life will be held at South Lenoir Church of God on Tuesday, May 27 with visitation at 1pm, service at 2pm. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Park immediately following the service.
