Celebrating the Life of Bob Winkler
April 11, 1938 - October 30, 2026
With heavy hearts and endless love, we announce the passing of Bobby Edward Winkler. While we are saddened by this loss, we choose to celebrate a life that brought so much love, laughter, and happiness to those fortunate enough to know him.
Bob lived a full life with meaning, cherished friendships, and memories that will forever remain in the hearts of family and friends.
Bob graduated Lenoir High School in 1956 and then studied Theology at Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC. In addition to serving in the Army National Guard, he had a meaningful career in Typesetting starting at The Lenoir News Topic, then The Winston-Salem Journal and most credibly, The Washington Post.
In retirement, Bob spent many years doing what he loved, driving a limousine and earning the nickname “Limo Bob”.
Bob is survived by his son, Mark Winkler (Tonya), his grandson, Alex Winkler (Lauren) and great granddaughter, Collins Winkler.
In addition to immediate family, Bob is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and by his ex-wife and close companion, Carolyn Winkler, her daughters, her grandchildren and great-grandson.
Most importantly, Bob is survived by his constant companion, his Greyhound rescue, Piper.
He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor (both appropriate and inappropriate), generosity, strength, love for family, and the special way they made others feel.
Although saying goodbye is never easy, we find comfort in knowing that a life so beautifully lived will never be forgotten.
We invite family and friends to join us for a small Celebration of Life to honor Bob, share stories, remember special moments, and celebrate the beautiful legacy they leave behind.
Please join us on Thursday, November 5, 2026 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir NC.
