Bryant Corpening

Reverend Bryant Corpening, Sr. of Lenoir, NC was born on April 21, 1927 to the late Eugene Franklin Corpening and the late Sophia Shade Corpening. They bore and raised eleven children and raised one niece. Bryant was the sixth child and first boy born to Eugene and Sophia. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and joined Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was educated in the Caldwell Public School System and served his country well in the United States Army and Air Force for four years. Reverend Corpening was married for 60 years to the late Iretta Kincaid Corpening of Hartland, NC. They had three children: The late Reverend Bryant Franklin Corpening, Jr. (wife Martha Corpening); Jeanie Muhammad, Diana Corpening and a stepdaughter, Margo Barnes. He is survived by one sister, one brother, three daughters, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Reverend Corpening pastored three churches spanning over 40 years: Mount Olive Baptist Church in Newton, NC where he ministered for thirty plus years; Macedonia Baptist Church in Taylorsville, NC where he ministered for six years; Mount Olive Baptist Church in Valdese, NC where he ministered for several more years. Reverend Corpening had a gift for passionately preaching the Word of God. He was sought after to speak at eulogies, revivals, and conferences. He was beloved by the children that he “raised” during his three pastorates and well respected in the communities in which he served. A celebration of Reverend Corpening’s life will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 12:00 PM at the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church with Pastor James Perkins officiating.Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Due to Covid-19, temperature checks, face masks and social distancing will be required.
