Caroline Harmon Stelljes

May 23, 1942 — June 29, 2025

Caroline Harmon (Stelljes), 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, June 29th.

Born May 23rd, 1942, in Savannah, Georgia, to parents Wilford Allen Harmon and Grace Marie Thomas. After a few years in Alabama, Caroline moved with her family to Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from DuPont High School in 1960 and went on to graduate from Jacksonville University in 1964 with a degree in Education.

A stay-at-home mom, Caroline welcomed her first son (David) in 1966 and two years later had a second son (Michael). In the Summer of 1978, the family moved to Lenoir, North Carolina and settled into the Lower Creek community.

In 1988, Caroline returned to school and earned her Masters of Library Science from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Returning to Lenoir in 1990, she served as Librarian branch manager for both the Hudson and Granite Falls locations.

Caroline retired in 2008, spending time with family, friends, and neighbors. A devoted Christian, she was a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed sharing her faith with church family and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents Wilford Allen Harmon and Grace Marie Harmon. Caroline is survived by her brother Allen Harmon (wife Elaine) of Jacksonville, Florida, her son David C Stelljes (wife Penny) of Greensboro NC, her son Michael W Stelljes of Jefferson, NC, and two granddaughters Mackenzie and Sarah.

Caroline was a kind, gentle soul and nothing short of a Saint. She enjoyed reading, hiking, walking, and tending to her plants and beautiful yard.

The family will hold a private ceremony, and in lieu of a service or flowers, a donation in her memory to Black Mountain radio station WMIT or Samaritan’s Purse would be deeply appreciated.

Evans Funeral Service is honored to serve the Stelljes family.
