Catherine Perkins

Catherine Shook Perkins, age 90, of Lenoir passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 at her home. Born in Catawba County, Catherine was a daughter of the late Commodore & Matilda Shook. Mrs. Perkins graduated from Glen Alpine High School, Gardner-Webb College and Carson-Newman College.She retired from Burke Co. Dept. of Social Services after 30 years as a social worker.She especially enjoyed placing children with adoptive families.A faithful member of Hartland Baptist Church, she served in several areas including Sunday school teacher and WMU.She was a prayer warrior and devout Christian.She loved her family and church family dearly. Proceeded in death by parents, Commodore & Matilda Shook, a sister Mary Elizabeth Shook, brother Commodore Shook, Jr., and her beloved husband of 54 years, Robert Conley Perkins. They enjoyed many years of traveling, gardening and enjoying the outdoors together. Survivors include 3 loving daughters, Deborah P. Hood and husband John, Cindy P. Younce and husband Mark, and Mary P. Baker and husband Julian; also 9 grandchildren:Chris Greene, wife Brandy, Ashley Greene, Justin Hood, Karlie Hood, Mary Younce Bentley, husband Erik, Jacob Younce, Elizabeth Baker, Natalie Greene and Natalie's soon-to-be baby brother. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, September 18th at Hartland Baptist Church at 1:00 PM.Officiating will be Dr. Todd Smith and Dr. Steve Parker.The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Pallbearers will be her son-in-laws and grandsons.
