Charlie William “Jack” Smith Charlie “Jack” Smith Lenoir - On Saturday, December 23, 2017 Charlie William “Jack” Smith went to be with the Lord. He was born September 3, 1926 in Burke County to the late Charlie Smith and Lonie Mae Franklin Smith. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Greene Smith; grandson Christopher Smith; and sisters Hildred Hall, Tootsie Barlow, Verdie Greer, and Nettie Keys. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his five sons Alen Smith Sr. and wife Janice; Charles Smith and wife Vicki; Michael Smith; Roger Smith and wife Brenda; and Jackie Smith and wife Kim of Lenoir; one daughter Deborah Pease and husband Thomas of Conover. He is, also, survived by two step sons: Kenny and Jeff Greene; twelve grandchildren: Lynn Jones, Leigh Smith, Alen Smith Jr., Billy Tolbert, Amy Summerlin, Charlie Smith, Caroline Land, Jason Smith, Brian Pease, Josh Conn, and Crystal Wagoner; 5 step grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Our dad, and grandfather worked in the asphalt business in his early years. Then he was the owner of Smith Sawmill and Logging of Lenoir for over 30 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to watch NASCAR racing. He was a loving, caring man who would help anyone in need. He loved his children and all of his grandchildren. The family would like to thank Gateway Nursing Home and Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care for all their help. There will be a service to honor the life of Charlie Smith at Evans Funeral Chapel on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 12:30 with Pastors Junior Hamby and Doug Cox. The family will receive friend prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:30. Internment will follow the service at Closer Walk Baptist Church. Serving as Pall Bearers will be Alen Smith Jr., Jason Smith, Brian Pease, Levi Smith, Devin Smith, Hunter Wagoner, and Jackie Smith.
