Clyde Columbus Tuttle

Clyde Columbus Tuttle was born 17 December 1931 and died 30 March 2026 with his loving family by his side. He was the son of the late William Clyde Tuttle and Pearl Sumpter Tuttle.

As a lifetime resident of Caldwell County, he attended a one room schoolhouse at Hartley Hill, Valmead Elementary School, and graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1950.

He married Barbara Poythress in 1954 and then served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 serving active duty in Austria and Germany. Beginning in 1950 he worked at Thomasville Furniture Company until his retirement in 1994. He was a faithful member of Crest View Baptist Church serving as usher, deacon, trustee, and custodian for many years.

He was predeceased by five sisters and one son: Alma Tuttle Hunsucker, Rachel Tuttle Cloer, Catherine Tuttle Phillips, Jolene Tuttle Fox, Hazel Tuttle Borders, and son Michael Clyde Tuttle.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Barbara Poythress Tuttle, son, Steven Douglas Tuttle (Jane), daughter, Carolyn Tuttle Whitt (Tony), grandchildren, Grace Tuttle, Nathaniel Whitt, Tristan Whitt, and sister, Mabel Tuttle Ledford.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Clyde’s honor to Crest View Baptist Church 1908 Blowing Rock Blvd. Lenoir, NC 28645 or Amorem 902 Kirkwood Street NW Lenoir, NC 28645

Funeral Service will be held Thursday April 2, 2026, at Crest View Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mike Isaacs officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Graveside service with military honors will take place at Blue Ridge Memorial Park following the service.
