Daniel Douglas Kirby Sr. left this earth when the angels came to usher him over to the other world with

God and the heavenly host on November 25, 2022. He was born January 1, 1943, in Caldwell County to

the late Robert Van Buren Kirby and the late Hazel Vanoy Kirby. In addition to his parents, he was

preceded in death by his wife, Delores C. Kirby and son, Daniel Douglas Kirby Jr, his two brothers, Dennis

Ray, and C.V Kirby, his two sisters Wildean K. Walker and Audrey K. Curtis. He is survived by his daughter

Janet K. Wilcox, his granddaughter Heather W. Helton and his grandson Nick Wilcox. His nieces Lori and

Kristen Jenkins and multiple other nieces and nephews, also.

Daniel spent his time here on earth mentoring and giving to those in his community and his family. He

proudly taught Sunday school for over 45 years while becoming a Master Beekeeper with N.C State

University. He was an instructor of woodcarving at the Lenoir Senior Center. He was the Hickory Jaycees

Chairman of Christians in American Life, Burke County Beekeepers Chairman of Monthly programs, Post-

Chairman-Person of the Year Award, he sang bass in The Gospel Tones, and he was one of two speakers

in children’s church while helping to start the church bus ministry.

Daniel was a man of many talents and hobbies, many of which he included his family. His most treasured

times were spent mentoring his grandchildren, equipping them with the necessary tools for life. He

loved the Lord and showed his devotion in every aspect of his life and work. Whether he was working on

his Sunday school lessons, carving beautiful spoons, forks, knives, figurines out of wood, being a Master

beekeeper, doing leather crafts, hunting, fishing, making his own wood carving knives- he was honoring

the Lord. His life revolved around his Savior and his family. Those who knew him, loved him and left his

  presence feeling just as loved.
