David Eugene Icard, 75, of Lenoir, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, after a courageous battle with dementia.
David was a beloved member of the Lenoir community, known for his generosity, compassion, and lifelong dedication to helping others. He was the co-owner of The Bold and Beautiful of Lenoir, a beauty salon he proudly operated for 25 years alongside his devoted husband, Christopher Lynn Sams.
Driven by a deep commitment to service, David co-founded the Wig Bank of Caldwell County, where he volunteered for about 12 years. His work touched the lives of countless individuals—particularly cancer and dementia patients, as well as survivors of domestic violence. Much of what David did, he did from the heart, never seeking recognition or reward.
In addition to his charitable efforts, David gave his time to Hospice and other organizations by styling hair for the elderly, the terminally ill, and the deceased—offering dignity and comfort to individuals and families during their most vulnerable moments.
David was known throughout Lenoir and the surrounding areas for his warm spirit, welcoming nature, and unwavering dedication to helping those in need. His presence was a source of light in the community, and his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Marie Icard and George Daniel Icard of Hickory, North Carolina.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving husband, Christopher Lynn Sams; his son, Shay Icard; two adopted daughters, Candice Victoria and Aliyah Grace Sams; and his five beloved sisters, Debbie Miller, Jane Stafford, Sherry Smith, Rita Icard, and Tina Cook.
A gathering of friends to celebrate David’s life will be held at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir, NC on Tuesday, October 21st at 2:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to local organizations supporting cancer patients, dementia care, or victims of domestic violence—causes David held close to his heart.
