Doris Lee Coffey Hawkins

July 4, 1946 — February 17, 2026

Doris Lee Coffey Hawkins is rejoicing in heaven with Jesus after passing away February 17, 2026. Doris was born on the 4th of July 1946 to the late Howard and Florence Coffey, and was one of 12 children. In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of over 60 years, Ray Lee Hawkins, siblings Russell Coffey, Mary Oileen Tolbert, Kathleen Hennesse, Leland Coffey, Joseph Coffey and infant Martha Jane.

There is no better way to describe Doris than by Proverbs 31:25-29, “she is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction in her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all”. Doris was beautiful inside and out, known for her perfect hair and always wearing a smile. She was a devoted Christian all her life, serving as a long-time member of Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church, and in recent years was a member of Grandview Part Baptist Church. Doris was the best homemaker, keeping her house to perfection, feeding her family with the most delicious food made from love, and a seamstress making her children’s clothes. She always had beautiful flowers and gardens, loved feeding and watching her birds, keeping our cabinets filled with canned hand-grown goodies and we can’t forget about the desserts! She was the absolute best Mama and Maw Maw that we could have asked for. She unconditionally protected, guided and loved all of her family. Doris was the light in her husband Ray’s world, and to say that she was loved, adored, and praised by him is an understatement. She was a noble woman and abundantly surpassed them all.

Doris and Ray created a beautiful family. Left to cherish the memories and her love forever include her children Cindy (Todd) Chapman, Todd (Kelly) Hawkins, Denise (Dennis) Spencer and Tonya Hawkins. Grandchildren are Dustin (Teresa) Chapman, Travis (Katie) Chapman, Kameron (Lauren) Hawkins, Kylee (Colby) Hawkins, Jessica (Tim) Patton, Shane (Heather) Spencer, Johnathan (Grace) Hawkins, and Taylor (Daniel) Farley. Several Great Grandchildren including Trystin, Dalton, Josiah, Jed, Joanna, Cole, Hadley, Thomas, Josiah, Easton, Lane, Amos, Paisley, Elsie and Graham. Siblings Alvin Coffey, Willa Tolbert, Ronald Coffey, Robert Coffey and Kenneth Coffey as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service. Officiants of the funeral will be Reverend Todd Chapman and Pastor Raymond Span. Family will have a private graveside burial service.

Pallbearers will include Doris' grandsons, Dustin Chapman, Travis Chapman, Kameron Hawkins, Shane Spencer, Johnathan Hawkins, Trystin Chapman, Colby Collins, Tim Patton and Daniel Farley. If you would like to purchase flowers in her memory, the family would love to have shrubs to be planted at the gravesite.

The family would like to thank the Staff and residents of the Shaire Center and Amorem, and personal caregiver Angie Welch for their love and care provided to Doris over the past several months.
