It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Marie Thomas Hood Shatley, who peacefully departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on March 14, 2026, in Lenoir, North Carolina, at the age of 87. Born on November 5, 1938, in Tennessee, Dorothy's journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and a quiet strength that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Dorothy spent her formative years in Newport, TN, where she developed the values of family and community that would define her life. Although her formal education concluded after the 3rd grade, Dorothy's wisdom and life lessons were immeasurable.

Dorothy's life was centered around her family, and she cherished the moments spent with her loved ones. Her home was a haven of warmth and comfort, where laughter and cherished memories were made. Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother, Octavia, and her father, Edward Thomas, her child, James Albert Hood, her siblings Reba, Raymond, and George. Dorothy is survived by her children Bruce Thomas, William Ray Hood, John Marty Hood, Baxter Allen Hood, Sherri Wright, and Debra Lynn Jordan, sisters Kathreen and Georgia Mae, twelve grand blessings, fourteen great grand blessings, and four great great grand blessings. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family. Dorothy's love for her family was unwavering, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to inspire and guide those who knew her. Though we mourn her physical absence, the impact of Dorothy's kindness and warmth will forever remain in our hearts. Dorothy Marie Shatley's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the enduring bonds of family. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will live on through the countless lives she touched.

A service to celebrate the life of Dorothy Shatley will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Covenant Baptist Church of Granite Falls, at 6:00PM with visitation an hour prior.
