Dot Ann Mayo

Dot Ann Mayo, 85, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

Born on December 22, 1939, to the late Lyle G. and Fay E. Mays, Dot dedicated her life to faith, family and service. She was the devoted wife of John W. Mayo, a minister of the church of Christ, and together they shared a marriage of 68 years rooted in love and ministry.

In addition to her parents, Dot is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Mayo, and sister, Katherine Poynter.

Those left to cherish Dot’s memory are children, Jean Brown, Peggy Hazard (Earl), and John Mayo (Angela); grandchildren, Lee, Todd (Jennifer), Ben, Erin (Jonah), Lauren, Alex; great grandchildren, Willa, Avett, Evaleigh; great great grandchild, Lyla Jane; brother-in-law, Pete Gordon Mayo (Elizabeth); nephew, Larry Poynter; niece, Vicki Wiseman and numerous other relatives.

As a homemaker, Dot poured her heart into creating a warm and welcoming home. Her greatest joy was found in nurturing her children, grandchildren and supporting her husband. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a lifelong active member of the church of Christ.

A graveside service to celebrate Dot’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Lenoir Church of Christ cemetery at 4:00 PM with Minister Chad Spurlin, Jr. officiating.
