Douglas “Doug” Dale Coffey, age 81, of Hudson, NC, passed away on June 16, 2021 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Doug was born on June 2, 1940 in Caldwell County, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Juanita Coffey, and his brother, Gary Coffey. Doug is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Nelda Ruth Coffey; his daughter, Alicia Raby; his son-in-law, Todd Raby; his granddaughters, Madison and Meredith Raby; various nieces and nephews; godsons, Dustin and Derek Dellinger; special friends, Jerry and Brenda Roper, Mary Wicker and Irene Bell. Doug was a loving and dedicated husband, daddy, and papaw. Doug was a graduate of Hudson High School, Class of 1958, and attended Catawba Valley Technical Institute. Doug served two tours in the United States Army as a ham radio operator. He was employed by Kohler & Campbell in the Engineering department and later retired from Broyhill. Doug was a long-time, devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was an avid amateur radio operator, guitar player, and small aircraft pilot. Aside from his family, Doug’s greatest enjoyments in life were vanilla ice cream, traveling with his family, acoustic guitar, and reinventing old objects into something new in his workshop. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at Friendship Baptist Church on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 12:00 Noon. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Pastor Robert Livingston and Reverend Lonnie Bell will be officiating the ceremony. Interment will be held in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard and the U. S. Army. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Friendship Baptist Church Music Fund or Caldwell County Hospice.
