William Douglas McDonald, age 81, of Granite Falls passed away on December, 22, 2022 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Doug was born on May 20, 1941 to the late Rev. Bennie McDonald and Jessie Lynwood Brooks. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy Jordan Wingler; sister, Kathy Eller; brother, Bennie McDonald Jr. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-nine- and one-half years, Mary Ann McDonald; daughter, April Wingler and fiancé Andy Hines; son, Tobey McDonald; brother, Edward Ross McDonald; grandchildren, Courtney Smith, Dylan Wingler, Dillon “Delaney” Turner, Kobe McDonald; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Sophie, Luke, Kaylee, and Connor; best friend fur baby, Sammy. Doug spent 50 years as a professional truck driver traveling across the country, he loved his job and family dearly. After his retirement, one of his favorite past times was eating breakfast with his friends. He loved traveling with his wife and spending time at the beach with her and Sammy. He always had a smile, hug, or joke for everyone he met and never met a stranger. A funeral service to honor William Douglas McDonald will be held at 12:00PM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Harvest Church in Hudson with Pastor Kevin Beard and Dr. Brenda Grasty officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:00AM to 12:00PM. The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Caldwell County Humane Society at 829 Fairview Dr. SW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
