Elayne Prestwood Lambrechts

Sep 5, 1944 — Sep 4, 2026

Elayne Prestwood Lambrechts, 81, of Hickory, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, laughter, love, and a lifetime of making others feel at home.

Elayne was a woman of deep faith and generous spirit, with a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Her engaging personality could light up a room, and her warmth made even the newest acquaintance feel like a treasured friend. Witty, welcoming, and quick to laugh, she had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved.

A consummate hostess, Elayne’s home was always open, her table always welcoming, and her heart always ready to make room for one more. Her home was more than a house, it was a gathering place, a refuge, and a place where people knew they would always be welcomed with open arms. There was always something to share, and always a story, a smile, or a laugh waiting to happen.

For 60 years, Elayne shared a beautiful marriage with her beloved husband, Steve Lambrechts. Their life together was filled with devotion, deep friendship, laughter, and countless memories. Their enduring love and commitment were a blessing to them both and an inspiration to the many people fortunate enough to know them. Elayne’s faith was unwavering and was reflected not only in her words, but in the way she lived her life and cared for others. Steve and Elayne gave freely of their time in the Marriage Encounter program through the Catholic Church.

For 39 years, Elayne and Steve operated Quality Furniture, where Elayne shared her natural gift for interior design with generations of customers. Many customers returned time and again, drawn not only to her expertise and eye for creating beautiful spaces, but also to the genuine care and friendship she extended to everyone she met. Elayne’s mother started the family owned business which was operated by the “store family” for many years.

She will be remembered in the traditions we continue; the gatherings around the table, and the stories shared by those who loved her. She made the world feel a little more like home, and her presence will be deeply missed.

Elayne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steve Lambrechts, and her son, Paul “Tater” Lambrechts.

She is survived by her daughter, Deanna Lambrechts Dickinson, and her husband, Bill; grandson, Parker Dickinson (Brock); granddaughter, Katie Lambrechts Phillips (Rhyian); great-grandson, Miles Phillips; grandson, Will Dickinson; granddaughter, Johnna Dickinson (Kevin) and great-grandson Liam Polite; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special and heartfelt thank you to her amazing caregivers - Trish Koenig, Melanie Bartolovich, Adriana Rodriguez, Gloria Acosta, Devan Lail; the Davita Team; dialysis nurse Kelli Farley; and especially Rosanna Resor and her family. Their compassion, kindness, and loving care meant so much to mom and to our entire family. We will always be grateful for the love and support they gave her.
