Emma K. "Susie" Barlow

Emma K. “Susie” Barlow, 97, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family on Monday, December 29, 2025.

Susie was born on July 21, 1928, to the late Horace and Esther Kirby.

In addition to her parents, Susie is preceded in death by her daughter, Karen B. Gaar and husband, John; granddaughter, Letitia Haslebacher and father, Cook Huffstetler; and nine siblings.

Those left to cherish Susie’s memory are her daughters, Virginia Huffstetler, Teresa Pierson (husband, Tom), Lori Holder; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, numerous loved nieces and nephews and especially her caregiver, Angie Dugger.

Susie was a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church. She loved her family, friends, and most of all, she loved the Lord. Susie’s life consisted of hospitality. She raised four daughters. While working in retail, Susie hosted many individuals who were relocating to Lenoir, until they were able to find permanent residences.

A service to celebrate Susie’s life will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Lower Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Josh Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Lower Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.

The family respectfully requests, in lieu flowers, memorials be sent to Oak Hill Charter School or Amorem Hospice in memory of Susie.
