Lenoir– Mrs. Emma Jean Leonard Franklin, age 87, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2015 at her residence. She was born in Catawba County on August 13, 1928 to the late Clyde Leonard and Jennie Barger Leonard. Mrs. Franklin graduated from Mt. View High School and attended Lenoir-Rhyne College for two years. She worked as bookkeeper for Barger-Ashe Roofing Company before retiring after 40 years of service. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Herndon Lee Franklin; son, Michael Ray Franklin; brothers, Dwight, Carrol and Clarence Leonard; sisters, Helen Leonard Burris and Ruth Leonard. She is survived by her son, John Eric Franklin and wife, Mechelle of Conover; daughters, Linda F. Buff of Grandy, NC and Jeannie Franklin of Lenoir; grandchildren, Michael Buff, Madison and Emily Carter; Macy and Krystyn Franklin; and great-grandchild, Triton Fulbright. A celebration of Mrs. Franklin’s life will be held at Union Grove Baptist Church on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Sam Craven officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the Franklin-Estes Cemetery in Collettsville on John’s River Road. The Deacon’s of Union Grove Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Caldwell Hospice, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
