Emma Murphy

Emma Hughes Murphy, 89, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Willow Ridge Rehabilitation and Living Center in Rutherfordton. She was born in Mithcell County on August 11, 1935 to the late Dewey Hughes and Mae Barnett Hughes.

Emma was a dedicated homemaker and loved caring for her family, especially the children. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers and took pride in keeping her homeplace attractive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Murphy and daughter-in-law, Maggie Murphy.

Emma is survived by her daughter, Rita Bentley; sons, Danny Murphy and wife, Colette; Keith Murphy and wife, Michele; grandsons, Dale Murphy and wife, Megan; Dalton Murphy and wife, Marie; Great-granddaughter, Maggie Grace Murphy; sisters, Thelma Brown; Linda Peterson; brother, DJ Hughes and numerous other family members.

There will be a graveside service celebrating Emma’s life at White Pine Cemetery in Pigeon Roost, NC on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 12:00 noon.
