Emma Esmeralda, 78, of Lenoir, North Carolina, passed away on August 16, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of strength, sacrifice, generosity, and unwavering faith.

Emma was one of the strongest and most resilient women her family ever knew. She was a no-nonsense woman who did not believe in excuses. When life became difficult, Emma did what she had always done—she kept going.

Raised by her beloved grandmother, Concepción “Mama Concha” Robles, Emma learned early the strength that would define her life. As a young woman, she married her first true love, Ruben Alfredo Alejo. Their time together was cut painfully short when Emma was widowed with three young children, Virginia, Ruben, and Cynthia. She later married Jose Luis Gonzalez, and together they welcomed Joel and Johanna, completing the family of five children who would become the center of her world.

Emma worked tirelessly to provide for her five children. She was strict and stern—her children will be the first to tell you they did not get away with much growing up. But beneath the firmness was a deep and unconditional love. Emma showed that love through action: by providing, showing up, helping, supporting, and offering the words of encouragement they often needed to hear. Her children always knew they could count on their mother.

Emma’s children were her pride and joy, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were among her life's greatest blessings and accomplishments. She also played an important role in raising and guiding her first grandson, Christopher Abraham, as her very own.

That love extended far beyond her family. Emma never met a stranger and was loved by many. She would go above and beyond to help someone in need, even when she herself was struggling. She embodied the words of Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

At the center of Emma's life was her unwavering faith in God. Through life's highest moments and deepest valleys, she trusted Him, often reminding those around her, “God gives and God takes away.” She encouraged others to seek God, trust Him, and put Him first.

Emma lived in California before eventually making North Carolina home, where she built lasting relationships and community. For many years, she was a beloved, long-time member of Living Hope Church (formally Whitnel Pentecostal Holiness Church) and actively participated in and supported Hispanic churches throughout the Lenoir community.

Emma Esmeralda, de 78 años, residente de Lenoir, Carolina del Norte, falleció el 16 de agosto de 2026, dejando un extraordinario legado de fortaleza, sacrificio, generosidad y una fe inquebrantable.

Emma fue una de las mujeres más fuertes y resilientes que su familia conoció. Era una mujer fuerte y decidida, que no creía en excusas. Cuando la vida se ponía difícil, Emma hacía lo que siempre había hecho: seguir adelante.

Emma fue criada por su amada abuela, Concepción “Mama Concha” Robles, de quien aprendió desde temprana edad parte de la fortaleza que definiría su vida. Siendo muy joven, se casó con su primer gran amor, Ruben Alfredo Alejo. El tiempo que compartieron fue dolorosamente corto, y Emma quedó viuda con tres hijos pequeños: Virginia, Ruben y Cynthia. Después, se casó con José Luis González, y juntos tuvieron a Joel y Johanna, completando así la familia de cinco hijos que se convertirían en el centro de su mundo.

Para sacar adelante a sus cinco hijos, Emma trabajó incansablemente para proveer para su familia. Era estricta y firme—y sus hijos no se salían con la suya fácilmente. Pero detrás de esa firmeza había un amor profundo e incondicional. Emma demostraba ese amor con hechos: proveyendo, estando presente, ayudando, apoyando y ofreciendo las palabras de aliento que muchas veces necesitaban escuchar. Sus hijos siempre supieron que podían contar con su madre.

Los hijos de Emma fueron su orgullo y alegría, y sus nietos y bisnietos estuvieron entre las mayores bendiciones y logros de su vida. También desempeño un papel muy importante en la vida de su nieto, Christopher, a quien crió, como a su propio hijo.

Ese amor se extendía mucho más allá de su familia. Emma nunca conoció a un extraño y fue querida por muchos. Siempre estaba dispuesta a hacer más de lo necesario para ayudar a alguien, aun cuando ella misma estuviera pasando por momentos difíciles. Vivió fielmente las palabras de Hechos 20:35: “Más bienaventurado es dar que recibir.”

En el centro de la vida de Emma siempre estuvo su fe inquebrantable en Dios. En los momentos más felices y también en los valles más profundos de la vida, confió en Él, recordándoles a quienes la rodeaban: “Dios da y Dios quita.” Siempre animó a los demás a buscar a Dios, confiar en Él y ponerlo en primer lugar.

Emma vivió en California antes de establecerse finalmente en Carolina del Norte, donde formó lazos duraderos y encontró una comunidad que la quería profundamente. Durante muchos años, fue una querida integrante de Living Hope Church (anteriormente Whitnel Pentecostal Holiness Church) y participó activamente y apoyó a diversas iglesias hispanas de la comunidad de Lenoir.
