Lenoir, NC- Mr. Gerald Wayne Pennington, age 73, of Lenoir, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Camelot Manor in Granite Falls. Born June 1, 1940 in Smyth County, VA, Mr. Pennington was a son of the late Henry Eli and Etta Mae Campbell Pennington and the husband of Mrs. Evelyn King Pennington, to whom they had shared 54 years of marriage. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a Grandson, Brandon Lee Dula and a brother, Jackie Lee Pennington. Mr. Pennington was a retired truck driver with Newton Transportation. He was a devoted family man who loved his neighbors and long drives in the mountains. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed collecting knives. Surviving other than his wife are his two sons, Gregory Wayne Pennington and wife Glenda of Lenoir; Marcus Keith Pennington of Lenoir; 1 sister, Nancy Carol Austin of Lenoir; 2 brothers, Otis Pennington and Larry Pennington and wife Penny, all of Lenoir; 1 Grandson, Brandon Keith Pennington and Ashley Landry of Denham Springs, LA; 1 Great-Grandson, Connor Bryant Pennington of Denham Springs, LA and Mr. Pennington̢۪s Great Friend and Neighbor, Donald Campbell of Lenoir. A celebration of Mr. Pennington̢۪s life will be held 6:00 PM Friday, May 23, 2014 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Steve Walsh officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 PM, one hour prior to the service.
