Gerald Setzer

May 1, 1963 — January 4, 2026

On January 4, 2026, Gerald Lynn Setzer, 62 of Lenoir went home to be with the Lord.

He was a private person quietly working in the background for those he loved. He was many things - a devoted father, loving husband, proud grandfather, caring brother, son-in- law and cherished son. His family wants to honor him for the man he was. Above all he loved his family big. His love showed in his selflessness for his family and friends and sometimes for complete strangers. His love showed in his presence, his sacrifices, and the way he always put his family first. He was our strength, comfort, and our steady place. He would do anything he could to make life better and easier. Though he is no longer with us, the love he gave will continue to live on through generations.

He worked in the furniture industry for over 40 years and was a master upholsterer, especially with leather goods, and prepared many pieces for the furniture market. He was inventive and loved working with his motorcycle. His voice was beautiful, and he taught himself to play the piano, bass, drums, mandolin, and acoustic guitar. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He shared these joys with his daughters and grandson. He taught Sunday school earlier in his life and was blessed with an understanding of God’s Word. He had a true heart for service, and it was not unusual for him to take food to a homeless encampment under a bridge.

He was born May 1, 1963, in Burke County, North Carolina to Shober Setzer, and Winnifred Greene Setzer. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Kenneth Bryant, and two grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Wendy Bryant Setzer; his children, Amanda Setzer (Isaac), and Teddi Setzer (Randy); and his grandchild, Colton Setzer- the apple of his eye. Siblings, Robin Setzer (Pam), Paula Arney (Danny), Becky Chavis (Bobby), Gary Setzer (Jennifer), Aaron Setzer (Deanna), and numerous nieces and nephews, and mother-in-law Frances (Pat) Bryant.

A receiving of family and friends will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 12pm-3pm at Evans Funeral Home. Graveside services will be afterwards at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his memory to Yokefellow of Caldwell County, Caldwell Pregnancy Care Center or Helping Hands Clinic in Lenoir.
