Gerald Robert Sims

Lenoir, NC- Mr. Gerald “Jerry” Robert Sims, age 80, of Lenoir, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Lenoir Health Care. Born June 19, 1931 in Terre Haute, Indiana, Jerry was a son of the late William and Pauline Wellrose Sims. Jerry was Catholic by faith and retired from MDI. He was a Navy veteran who served in the Korean War. Jerry enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Pat Sims of the home; a daughter and son in law, Rosanne and Ernie Penley of Morganton; a sister, Rosemary Bauermeister of Yucca Valley, CA; a brother, Bill Smith of Terre Haute, IN; a granddaughter, Shannon Penley  Brown, husband Scott, of Canton, GA; three great grandchildren, Matthew Brown, Erin Brown, and Nicholas Brown all of Canton, GA; Jerry is also survived by several nieces and nephews. There will be a private graveside service for Jerry at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
