Helen Adkins Smith

Lenoir NC- Mrs. Helen Adkins Smith, age 79, of Lenoir, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012 at her home. Born November 24, 1932 in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the late James Walter and Nellie Hamby Adkins. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann. Mrs. Smith was retired from child care and a member of the Lenoir Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Bascom Smith, Jr., one son, John Bascom Smith, III of Lenoir; two daughters, Tammy Townsend and husband Glen of Lenoir and Beverly Brooks and husband Joseph of Hickory. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Betty and Margaret and two brothers, Clayton and William. A celebration of Mrs. Smith’s life will be held Monday, October 8, 2012 at 4:00 PM at the Lenoir Church of Christ with Minister John Mayo officiating. A private burial will follow in the North Catawba Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Doug Gilliam, Zach Gilliam, Mark McLean, John McLean, Thomas Welch, Robbie Jessen, Hunter Mise, and Cooper Childers.
