Huldah Loven Story

November 24, 1927 — September 26, 2025

Huldah Loven Story, of Lenoir, N.C., passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025 after a full and inspiring life. She will be remembered for her kind and loving spirit, bringing joy to all of those with whom she interacted.

Born in Burke County, NC on November 24, 1927, Huldah was the daughter of Robert Vance Loven and Ellie Dula Loven. Huldah was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George W. Story; sisters, Lou Cornelia Loven Key, Leah Loven Myers; and brothers, Sterling Loven and William Anderson (Dick) Loven. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Story; son, George Edward Story and wife, Sandra Smith Story; her cherished grandchildren, Dr. Tracey Truesdale and husband David Truesdale, Capt. Carolyn Ellison and husband Matt Ellison, George Edward Story Jr, and his wife, Amy Lai; and Dr. William Andrew (Stavri) Story and finance Sharmaine Torio; and great-grandchildren, Rachel Truesdale and Jonathan Truesdale.

Huldah had a radiant personality with an infectious humor that could lighten any room. She had deep love for family and was selfless in her support of family and friends. Her generosity was boundless, touching countless lives with quiet acts of kindness, often putting the needs of others before her own. A lover of horses, Huldah could be seen riding her horses with friends throughout the community and continued to care for horses in her pasture long after she could no longer ride.

Huldah was never one to sit still. With her limitless energy, she was often traveling to Morganton and the mountains to visit friends and family. She cherished countless trips with her close friends to Hilton Head Island. An exceptionally hard worker, she enjoyed working as the switchboard operator at Caldwell Memorial Hospital until she was 80 years young, developing lasting relationships with those around her. During her childhood, Huldah grew up during the depression and tended to many chores at her home in Burke County before and after the long trek to school, graduating from Morganton High School. Whether hoeing corn to earn money for a prom dress or milking the cows before school, Huldah once remarked that she was poor growing up, but didn’t realize it because all those she knew were in similar circumstances. Huldah died rich in spirit and well-loved by so many. We will miss your twinkling eyes, ever-present smile, and companionship.

Huldah was a devoted and long-time member of Lower Creek Baptist Church, living within eyesight of the church, and loved attending Sunday School as long as she was able. Huldah spent the last 3 years under the loving care of the staff at Wilkes Assisted Living in Wilkesboro, NC.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 3rd, 2025 at Evans Funeral Home Chapel, 1070 Taylorsville Road, Lenoir, NC, followed by a reception at Cedar Rock Country Club.
