Irving J. “Irv” Eurto, 77, passed away February 18, 2026, in Connelly Springs, North Carolina. Born May 20, 1947, in Hartford, Connecticut, he was raised in Glastonbury. He earned an Associate degree in Economics from the University of Hartford and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of New Haven. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era, stationed in Germany as a communications specialist. Irv began his career as a photographer before becoming a Life and Property & Casualty insurance agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, where he spent decades earning professional designations and the trust of the families he served. Known for his Snoopy ties and extensive tie collection, he retired at age 62. For more than 35 years, Irv served as Scoutmaster of Troop 4 in Norwich, Connecticut, mentoring generations of young men and guiding many to Eagle Scout rank. He was deeply committed to Scouting and youth leadership, attending national and world jamborees and supporting June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation. He also coached youth sports, played church league softball, enjoyed woodworking, painting, model railroading, and was a devoted New York Yankees fan. After retiring, he moved to Lenoir, North Carolina, with his wife, Verna, where he remained active in the community, the Senior Center, and American Legion Post 29. He enjoyed gardening and became known for his homemade pepper sauces.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Lee Eurto; his son Eric J. Eurto and husband Timothy Whitehouse; his son Charles F. Yeager and wife Laura; grandson Andrew Yeager; brother Raymond Eurto; and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents and brother James Eurto.
A light luncheon will be held at Colliers United Methodist at 2625 Clarks Chapel Rd, Lenoir, NC at 11:30 a.m. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP to Pastor Ann Gibert at 704-578-7408. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Following the service, a funeral procession will proceed to Laurel Haven Cemetery on Still Meadow Way, Lenoir, for burial with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army and America Legion Post 29.
