Mr. Ivey E. Cannon, Sr., age 80, passed away on Thursday January 30, 2020 at Caldwell Hospice. He was born in Caldwell County on December 11, 1939 to the late William Pinkney and Sara “Emaline” Smith Cannon. Mr. Cannon was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church.He enjoyed fishing and gardening.His greatest accomplishment was raising his nine children.He enjoyed taking them to the mountains on Sundays for ice cream. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Moore Cannon; four brothers, Ray Cannon, Ralph James “Jimbo” Cannon, Lester “Bud” Cannon and Clarence “Jack” Cannon; three sisters Verna Bean, Becky Sigmon and Sadie Lail. He is survived by his children, Patty Vines; Ivey Cannon, II; Jimmy Laws; Earl Laws and Pearlie Williams; brother, Phillip Cannon; sisters, Effie Dishman, Anna Lea Duncan and Evelyn Lail; and nephew, Howard Lail; grandchildren, Seth Vines; Lori Joplin; Annette Jones; Hannah Moore; Tammy Barlow; Carla Harris; Justin Cannon; Earl Laws, Jr. and Jordie Cannon; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his best friend and caregiver, Gordon Helms. A celebration of Mr. Cannon’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 3:00 PM at the Clearview Baptist Church with Pastor Geoff Day and Pastor Raymond Spann officiating.Interment will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
