Keith Clark, a kind and curious soul with a deep love for the natural world, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, his birthday, surrounded by care at the hospital. Though his later years were marked by physical challenges, Keith's sweet spirit and wonder for life's beauty never dimmed.
In his younger years, Keith was most at home in the forests and streams, spending countless hours exploring the woods, casting a fishing line, and marveling at the intricate beauty of nature. His gentle curiosity and appreciation for the world around him touched everyone who knew him, and his kind heart left an enduring impression on all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
Keith is survived by his daughter, Amber Clark Hunnell and her husband Roger Hunnell of North Tazewell, Virginia; his granddaughters Serenity Adeline Hunnell and Seirra Goff and her husband Benji Goff, and step-grandson Jeric, all of North Tazewell, Virginia; his great-grandchildren Darcy, Lincoln, and Macy; and his ex-wife Rhonda Wolford Whited of Virginia.
He is also survived by his siblings Sheila Greer and Brian Clark, both of Boomer, North Carolina, and Terry Clark and wife Debra Clark of Stafford, Virginia; his sister-cousins June Woodruff and Jackie Eckenrod; his brother-cousins Michael Eckenrod and David Coffee; his cousins Jackie Renee Woodruff and Larry Woodruff, children of June Woodruff; nieces Christine Holman of Boomer, North Carolina, Rebecca Mullikin and husband Danny Mullikin of Tennessee, and Katherine Bush and husband Christopher Bush of Tennessee; grand-nieces Veronica Mullikin and Coraleigh Alvarez; and nephews Billy Trail and Jason Henry Clark. Keith was also cherished by a large extended family who will carry forward his memory of kindness and his love of the natural world.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ned Clark, and his mother, Vera Lee Clark.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Nature Conservancy in Keith's memory, honoring his lifelong passion for the beauty and wonder of nature.
A memorial celebration for James Keith will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 2pm – 5pm at Perkz Café, 538 Wilkesboro Blvd Lenoir, NC.
