James Russell Parker

Lenoir – Mr. James Russell Parker, age 83, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born in Ashe County on November 7, 1931 to the late Millard Filmore Parker and Ada Alice Farmer Parker. Mr. Parker was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He loved his family and working on lawn mowers in his garage. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sophia Price Parker; brothers, Ben, Tom, Joe and Lester; and his sister, Danferd. Mr. Parker is survived by his son, Neil Parker and wife, Sandra; daughter, Sharon Kirk and husband, Terry; brothers, Hugh and Tevis; sisters, Nina Faye and Ella Mae; grandson, Michael Parker and wife, Brooke; great-grandson, Weston Parker; and numerous other relatives. A celebration of Mr. Parker’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 6:30 PM. Burial will take place at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens in Crumpler, NC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:30 prior to the service.
