Lenoir – Mr. James “Jim” Carroll Simmons, age 86, of Lenoir, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. Born December 21, 1933 in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Hugh and Scottie Underdown Simmons.Jim enjoyed Baseball and coached at the Hudson Optimist Club.He was a member of Collier’s United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and making crafts.He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jennie Simmons, whom he took excellent care of for her final years. In addition to his wife and parents, he is also preceded in death seven brothers, Charles Simmons, Alfred Simmons, Cargel Simmons, Wayne Simmons, Clyde Simmons, William Simmons and Joseph Simmons; two sisters, Faye Smith and Joyce Adkins. Survivors include his three children, Melessa Arrowood and husband Dwight of Lenoir; Beverly Smith and husband Marty of Baton; Kevin Simmons and wife Teresa of Dudley Shoals; five grandchildren, Brad Beach, Stacy Gentry, Stuart Smith, Daniel Simmons and wife Hannah of Ellendale; Amanda Simmons Holder and husband Cameron of Claudeville, VA; four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Mattie, Gillian and Kaleb Beach; he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a private graveside service.
