Jean Smith

Jean Powell Smith, age 93, of Lenoir, North Carolina; died Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson, North Carolina.She was born December 7, 1926 and was the daughter of Shelby Joseph Powell and Eva Icenhour Powell. Jean was a lifelong member of Lower Creek Baptist Church where she taught a children’s Sunday class for a number of years.She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker; and enjoyed reading, birdwatching and growing many different kinds of flowers and plants. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Monroe Smith; sister Barbara Powell Craig, and brother Steve Powell. Jean is survived by her sons Monte Stephen Smith and wife Cricket and Rand Powell Smith and wife Pam; all of Lenoir; 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and nephew Hans Holland Craig of Mocksville, North Carolina. A private graveside service conducted by the Reverend Norman Sherwood was held at Lower Creek Baptist Church on Wednesday October 14, 2020.
