It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Jenkins, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Jerry left this world peacefully on the morning of Friday, March 6th, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born on Monday, October 14th, 1946, Jerry was a lifelong resident of his hometown, where he cultivated deep roots and meaningful relationships over the decades. Jerry was known for his unwavering kindness, infectious laughter, and the warmth that he brought to everyone he met. His passions included fishing, softball, gardening and hunting. He loved Living Hope Church, where he was an active member for more than 35 years.
Throughout his life, Jerry exemplified dedication and hard work. He had a successful career spanning over four decades at Broyhill Furniture Industries, where he was admired for his strong work ethic and integrity. Even more precious to him than his professional accomplishments, however, were the relationships he built along the way.
In addition to his parents, Wesley and Reba Jenkins, he was preceded in death by his previous wife and his children's mother, Helen Greene Jenkins; son, David Jenkins; brothers, Jack Jenkins and Jim Jenkins; and sister, June Jenkins.
Jerry was a devoted family man, survived by his wife, Joann; his daughter and caregiver, Lorie Harris and husband, Larry; his treasured grandchildren, David Jenkins, Jr.; Alysa Jenkins; Cecilia Myles and husband, Wesley; his only great-grandson, Cayden Myles who were his pride and joy. He will also be dearly missed by his siblings, Jane Simmons and John Jenkins, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were fortunate enough to know him.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at Living Hope Church, on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 2:00 PM, where family and friends are encouraged to share stories and memories of the remarkable man he was.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jerry's name to Living Hope Church, 1890 Connelly Springs Road, Lenoir, NC 28645, a tribute to his enduring generosity and compassion.
Jerry's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. His memory will remain a guiding light to all who had the honor of knowing him.
Evans Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Jerry Jenkins.
