Joe Harris

Mr. Norman Joe Harris, age 87, of West Jefferson, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Ashe Memorial Hospital. Born June 20, 1930 in Pikeville, KY, Joe was a son of the late William Ace and Mattie Taylor Harris.He was a member of the Tabernacle Advent Christian Church.Joe was a contractor and enjoyed woodworking.Joe was also an avid golfer.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eight siblings. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Peggy Ann Harris; his children, Melinda Harris Ashley (husband David) of Fleetwood, NC, Kelly Harris Carpenter (husband Randy) of West Jefferson, NC and Norman Eric Harris (wife Katie) of Greenlawn, NY; his grandchildren, Seth McDaniel, Jena McDaniel, Samuel Harris, Luke Harris, Garrett Harris and Karaline Harris; and one great grandson, Kane McDaniel; he is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Paul Duncan officiating.Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
