Joe Benny Patterson

Benny Patterson Lenoir, NC – Mr. Joe Benny Patterson, age 60, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Caldwell County on January 11, 1953 to Alder Mae (Billie) Scott Patterson and the late Herman Lee Patterson, Sr. He was married for 19 years to Donna Norwood Patterson of the home. Benny worked for the North Carolina Department of Public Safety for 20 years and at the time of his death he was serving as a Correctional Captain at Foothills Correctional Institution. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Zula Harris; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Annie Horton Patterson; and numerous aunts and uncles. Other than his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughter, Charity Patterson; brothers, Herman “Buddy” Patterson, Jr. and wife, Emily of Lenoir; James Patterson and wife, Lorraine of Hickory; Terry Patterson of Lenoir; Roger Patterson of Lenoir; sister, Trish Patterson of Rock Hill, SC; 2 grandchildren; aunts, Elizabeth Patterson of Lenoir and Ruth Corpening of Lenoir; uncle, Willie “Bill” Patterson and wife, Catherine of Lenoir; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and a host of friends. A celebration of Benny’s life will be held at Smith Memorial United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Charlie Rivens, Reverend James Perkins, and Reverend Jimmie Norwood. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Benny’s friends. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety Honor Guard will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
