Joey Keith Watson, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 26, 2026, at his residence. Born in Caldwell County, North Carolina, on April 15, 1958, Joey was the beloved son of Odell and Laura Smith Watson.
Joey shared 37 amazing years of marriage with his devoted wife, Donna Adams Watson. Together, they created a life filled with love, adventure, and shared passions. As a retired owner/operator for Sunbelt Xpress, Joey spent over a decade dedicating his time and expertise to the transportation industry.
A true outdoorsman, Joey found joy in hunting, fishing, and seeking out arrowheads. His love for nature was only rivaled by his passion for animals. Alongside Donna, he volunteered with Southern Pug, Boston Terrier, and French Bulldog Rescue, caring for dogs with spinal injuries—a testament to his generous spirit.
Joey was an ardent supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, cheering them on each season. Above all, he was an exceptional husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren, Hunter and Hayzel, were the light of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A dedicated member of Yadkin Valley Baptist Church, Joey contributed in numerous ways over the years, forging strong friendships and leaving a lasting impact on the community.
Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gordon and Mae Smith and Mettie Clark. He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Donna; children, Ashlyn Cody Roberts and her husband Tommy; sister, Lynne Williams and her husband Blake; sister-in-law, June Ford of Lakeland, FL; and special friends, Michelle Michael and Tami Fowler. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, and a host of other cherished family members.
A memorial service celebrating Joey’s life will be held at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 3:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Bobby Pritchard. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Joey’s name to a local animal rescue organization, a cause he held dear to his heart. Joey's kindness, enthusiasm for life, and love for his family and community will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
