John Barrett

Lenoir- Mr. John David Barrett, age 76, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Trinity Ridge in Hickory. He was born in Savannah, GA on July 23, 1941 to the late Alexander Barrett and Ruby Stafford Barrett. Mr. Barrett was a Minister at Martinez-Evans Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Martinez, Georgia, until approximately 1975. He moved into Retail Management for many years, specifically working for Belk in Lenoir for several years. Mr. Barrett then transitioned to Hotel Management, working for Super 8 Hotels and Master’s Inns until his retirement in 2007. Mr. Barrett was an accomplished pianist and loved to sing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Beloved Cat of 18 years, Charlie; grandparents, John D. and Laura Overstreet Barrett of Savannah, GA; sister, Carole Barrett Rogers; aunt, Esther Tillman of Savannah, GA; and cousin, Jimmy Tillman of Savannah, GA. Mr. Barrett is survived by his beloved cats, Hazel and Princess; daughter, Michelle Barrett Mahaffey and husband, Cliff of Lenoir; granddaughter, Eliesha Garland DelMastro of Augusta,GA; granddaughter, Caitlynne Brianne Garland of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Jennifer Barrett Lapinski and husband, Ronald of Locust Grove, GA; grandson, Jonathan Rouse and wife, Kristin of Fayetteville, GA; granddaughter, Torrie Rouse Jackson and husband, Jake of McDonough, GA; grandson, Nicholas Rouse of Grantville, GA; brother, William J. Barrett and wife, Caro of Savannah, GA; 2 great-granddaughters; 8 great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Mr. Barrett will be held at Hillcrest Abbey East Memorial Park in Savannah, GA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Trinity Ridge, 2140 Medical Park Drive, Hickory, NC28602.
