Collettsville, NC- Mr. John Calvin Clarke, age 82, of Collettsville, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Grace Hospital in Morganton.Born July 16, 1933 in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late C. “Post” and Minnie Puttman Clarke and the husband of Mrs. Kaye Kirby Clarke to whom they had shared 61 years of marriage. Mr. Clarke was a member of Mulvale Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and was a member of the Thankful Thursday Senior Group.He was a charter member of the Collettsville Fire Department and the Collettsville Ruritan Club. He had worked for 24 years at Blue Bell and had also worked for American Roller Bearing. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Calvin Clarke and 11 brothers and sisters. Surviving in addition to his wife Kay are his three children, Sybil Moore and husband John; Althea Miller and husband Nelson; Jeffery Clarke and wife Karen; all of Collettsville and one grandson, John David Miller of Boone. A Private Entombment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.A celebration of Mr. Clarke’s life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Mulvale Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 11:00 until 12:00, one hour prior to the service. Honorary Pallbearers will be:Ralph Braswell, Jim Pinson, Wayne Painter, Wayne Beane, Lloyd Braswell, Robert Melton, Jerry Melton, Greg Duncan, Dillard Greene and the Green Mountain Park Camping Friends. The family respectfully requests memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to Mulvale Baptist Church for the Fellowship Hall, 3951 Collettsville Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
