John R. Kirby

John Rockwell Kirby of Lenoir, NC passed away on June 12th 2021 in his home. He was born on September 30th 1961 in Caldwell County to Harold and Peggy Kirby. John was a loved son, brother, father, and devoted husband of almost 35 years to Melinda. He leaves behind his wife, daughters (Samantha and Ashton), son-in-law (Fanye), sister (Alyson and husband, Thomas) along with many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter (Lauren). John lived a life of service and generosity towards his family and his community. He spent many years as a faithful member of First United Methodist Church; always happy to lend a hand in the kitchen, chaperone a youth trip or usher on Sunday mornings.Some of the many joys in his life were developing new business strategies, watching the Gamecocks, tending his garden, tackling home improvement projects, creating gourmet meals, and cheering on his daughters. In his early retirement John could be found on a sunrise drive with a cup of black coffee and a cake donut or spending his afternoon grilling out while watching endless episodes of Westerns and Andy Griffith. As the family comedian, you could be assured that if John was in the room, everyone was laughing. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to experience his love, devotion and wit. A celebration to honor his life will be held at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, June 15th at 5:00pm.Following the service, there will be light refreshments in the Christian Life Center and the family will be taking visitors at that time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Lenoir and Caldwell County Hospice.
