John Robert Pope, Sr.

John "Johnny" Robert Pope Sr., age 88, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at his residence in Granite Falls, North Carolina. Born in Catawba County on February 2, 1938, John was the cherished son of the late William McKinley Pope and Lucy Hargus Pope. Johnny was a generous and kind soul who treasured his family above all else. He had a passion for the great outdoors and found peace amid the tranquility of beaches and mountains. A true sportsman at heart, John spent countless hours fishing and hunting. His love for westerns, NASCAR, and the simple joy of sharing a meal with those he loved brought a multitude of smiles to his life. John's legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, John Robert Pope Jr., and his siblings, Raymond, Floyd, Darrell, Clifford, David, Hazel, Frances, Irene, Ann, Ethelyne, and Ruth.

John is survived by his granddaughter, Megan Pope; brother, Cecil “Wormy” Pope and wife, Corinne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to gather and pay their respects from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service. A celebration of John's life will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service. Following the service, John will be laid to rest at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Granite Falls.

John worked as a laborer throughout his life, embodying the virtues of hard work and dedication. Arrangements have been entrusted to Evans Funeral Service & Crematory, ensuring that his farewell will be a testament to a life well-lived.

John Robert Pope Sr. will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his spirit lives on in the memories shared by those he touched during his years among us. May he rest in eternal peace.
