Mr. Joseph Alfred Marler, age 81, of Granite Falls, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at his home. Born December 25, 1935 in Caldwell county, Joseph was a son of the late Carl and Anna Bell Gillium Marler. Joseph enjoyed working outside, especially gardening and making floral arrangements. He was an active member of Dry Ponds Baptist Church. He was in the National Guard and will be remembered as never meeting a stranger and for the love he had for his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Marler and one sister, Dorothy Brown. Survivors include his wife of 53, years, Annie Annas Marler of the Home; a daughter, Teena Lowman (husband Rusty) of Granite Falls; his grandchildren, Katana Lowman and Katelyn Lowman; his brothers and sister, Jim Marler, Jack Marler, and Faye Allen all from Lenoir; he is also survived by numerous other relatives. A memorial service celebrating Joseph’s life will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Dry Ponds Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Rob Evans and Pastor Harold Beam officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.evansfuneralservice.com.
