Josie Duncan

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Josie Duncan, who departed this life on March 11, 2026, in Lenoir, North Carolina. Born on June 16, 1923, in the Richlands Community of Caldwell County, North Carolina to Thomas Chandler and Mary (Holden) Chandler. She lived a life marked by warmth, dedication, and a deep love for her family. Josie dedicated her life to being a homemaker. Her home was a haven of comfort and love, a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her early education was limited, her wisdom and kindness extended far beyond formal schooling. Josie's legacy is carried on by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Pinkney Duncan; sons, Marshall Duncan and wife, Virginia and Richard Duncan.

She is survived by her children, Sheila Shimpock and husband, John Thomas; Timothy Duncan and wife, Barbara; Roger Duncan and wife, Clara; grandchildren, Melody Ammerman; Toni Duncan; Lori Glassey; Michelle Shimpock; and John Thomas Shimpock IV; great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.

Her family will gather to honor her memory, sharing stories and celebrating the life she lived. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. A celebration of Josie's life will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM, also in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service. Following the service, Josie will be laid to rest at Clearview Baptist Church Cemetery. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
