Loretta Lee Bumgarner

Loretta Lee Bumgarner, age 88, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, at the Shaire Center in Lenoir surrounded by her family.

A longtime resident of Boone, NC, Loretta was born in Caldwell County on July 13, 1937. She was the beloved daughter of the late Roma & Lina Campbell of Lenoir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Conrad Lee Campbell and Rex Douglas Campbell.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Mark D. Bumgarner and Tracy N. Bumgarner, both of Lenoir; five grandchildren: Sara and Matthew Huskins of Matthews, NC; Kate, Andrew, and Ben Bumgarner of Weaverville, NC; sister Polly Campbell Craig; special friends and relations: Phil and Candace Norman, Anne Council, Chris Fritton, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Loretta graduated from Hudson High School and spent much of her career as the administrative assistant to the Watauga County School Superintendent. She was an active member of many church, civic and social clubs and organizations throughout the years.

A memorial service celebrating Loretta’s life will be held at 3 o’clock pm on December 21 at Evans Funeral Home, located at 1070 Taylorsville Road in Lenoir, with Rev. Ed Stevenson presiding. Friends may visit with the family at 2 o’clock pm, prior to the service. A private burial will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
