Lucas Jackson

Lucas gained his angel wings Sunday morning after losing his battle with alcohol addiction at only 36 years of age.

Lucas is survived by his brokenhearted mother and stepfather, Debbie and Bill Jenkins; his sister, Brandy Blackburn, and her husband, Chris, whom he affectionately referred to as “Sister” and “Brother.” After Lucas outgrew calling Brandy “Sissy,” she flatly refused to let him call her Brandy. Lucas is also survived by perhaps his favorite human, his niece, Lilly Claire Stanislaw. Lucas was not a fan of his beautiful Lilly growing older and getting all the boys’ attention. We are quite certain he has already found a spot in Heaven from which he can keep an eye on her. His next great love was his dog, Sailor, and we know she will miss her Daddy tremendously.

Lucas also leaves behind a large extended family that mourns his loss, including his aunts and uncles, Regina and Jeff Bolick, Sherry Justice, Tammye Jackson, Bonita and James Reed, and Carol and Steve Brooks. He also leaves behind many cousins and friends who were family to him. They are too numerous to name, but please know that he loved you all so much. Lucas was preceded in death by his father, Robert Terrill Jackson; his paternal grandmother, Shirley Miller, whom we are sure was first in line to grab him in Heaven; his maternal grandparents, Grover and Clara Dula; and a very special friend, Josh Fowler, whom we know welcomed him with a huge, “Heyyyy, Buuudddy!” The thought of that reunion brings both smiles and tears to those who loved them.

Lucas was a proud 2008 graduate of South Caldwell High School and a 2012 graduate of East Carolina University, where he studied accounting and finance, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He began his professional career at Martin Starnes & Associates, PA, and later served as assistant financial manager for Cleveland County and then Burke County.

Lucas’ first true passion as a little boy was baseball. He excelled at the sport and was proud to be part of South Caldwell’s 2007 state championship team. As an adult, Lucas was happiest on the water, whether at his beloved Lake Hickory or on any ocean or waterway. He loved having his friends around during the day while he worked on his tan and socialized by the water, then staying up all night bow fishing, his other true passion.

Before addiction took over his life, Lucas brought smiles and light to every room he entered. His blue eyes and infectious laugh will live forever in our hearts. If you were lucky enough to love him and be loved by him, it was an amazing gift to cherish. His true friends and family advocated for him and fought for him until the bitter end. Unfortunately, the demons in his mind and the pain in his heart were simply too much to overcome.

We are so grateful that Lucas spent his last night on this earth exactly as he spent his first — in the arms of his mother. What a precious gift from God to them both.

Addiction is real. It is ugly, and it will destroy you and the people who love you. If you are struggling with addiction, we beg you to seek help. It is never too late to turn your life around and live the life you so deserve.

A service to honor Lucas’ life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Poovey’s Chapel, 2822 Poovey’s Chapel Church Road in Hudson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery, 1787 Cajah Mountain Road in Hudson.
